He was probably the David Basford of Mt. Vernon, ME, “a person non compos mentis,” whose guardian Samuel Quemby(?), who presented an accounting to the Probate Court at Augusta, ME on 6 Jun 1806. [653]

He ran into financial problems, and was sued at least three times for unpaid debts between 1829 and 1835, the last action involving bills unpaid in Farmington in 1825. David must have been married previously to his marriage to Xoa Swift on 27 Seo 1830 since the 1820 and 1830 census records appear to indicate that he had a wife and children at those times. [237], [2] Probably the David Bassford, Jr. who married Amanda F. Coleman was one of those children. His marriage record gives the names of his parents as David and Catherine Bassford, so Catherine was probably the name of David’s wife. [716] Probably Jacob Kimball Basford was another one of those children. Perhaps Elizabeth, who married George W. Hill, was another. [717]
