Fourth Generation (Continued)
Fourth Generation (Continued)
Family of Jacob BASFORD (9) & Abigail SILVER
24. Sarah BASFORD (Jacob3, James2, Jacob1). Born bef Nov 1739 in prob. Chester, NH. [228] Sarah was baptized in Haverhill, MA, in Nov 1739. [228] Sarah died prob. bef 1760. [144]

She probably died before her father since she is not mentioned in the settlement of her father’s estate. [144]

[228]

25. John BASFORD (Jacob3, James2, Jacob1). Born on 25 Oct 1741 in Chester, NH. [229], [23] John died in Chester, NH, bet 23 Aug 1799 and 18 Dec 1799. [230] will dated and proved.

He is mentioned in the settlement of his father’s estate. [144]

I am assuming that he is the John Basford that had children Jacob, John, Jonathan, Mary, and Joseph baptized at the Congregational Church in Chester, NH during the years 1772-1787. This is not proven, but I don’t know of any other Johns who would be of the right age. (Unless perhaps John3 (James2, Jacob1) married and had a son named John...)

“John Basford & wife owned the covenant” on _ Jun 1772. [231]

He might be the John Basford who was in Henniker, Merrimack Co., NH in 1776. [232]

Perhaps he was the John Basford in the 1790 Federal Census of Chester, NH. The census entry contains no headcount in any category so it is unclear what the makeup of the family would be. [233]

He was mentioned in his mother’s will in 1791. [169]

He might also be the John Basford in the 1800 Federal Census for Chester, NH? But if so, there must be a mistake in the age recording since John would have been about 59 of age. [234]
