Seventh Generation (Continued)
Family of David F. BASFORD (118) & Catherine FOWLER
355. Elizabeth BASFORD (David F.6, Moses5, Ebenezer4, Jacob3, James2, Jacob1). Born ? . Elizabeth died in Boston, MA, on 2 Mar 1845. [717]

Her death notice indicates that she was the daughter of David Bassford, formerly of Calais, ME. [717] However, it is not certain who would be her mother.

[717], [394]

She married George Washington HILL on 9 Jun 1844 in Boston, MA. [394] Born ? . George Washington died ? .

[717], [394]

356. Jacob Kimball BASFORD (David F.6, Moses5, Ebenezer4, Jacob3, James2, Jacob1). Born abt 1826 in Calais, ME. [1308], [1309] age 59 at death. Jacob Kimball died in San Francisco, CA, on 4 Aug 1885. [1308], [1309] Occupation: Druggist, Physician. [704], [705] aka: Bassford. [389]

It is only speculation that Jacob Kimball Basford was a son of David Bassford, however this seems like a reasonable possibility since Jacob’s obituary indicated that he was a native of Calais, ME. [1308] The only families found living in Calais during the years 1830-1850 are David Basford, and Asher Basford, who was David’s brother. It is unlikely that Jacob was the son of Asher since there are several sources giving lists of Asher’s children that do not include Jacob. [724] (If Jacob was the son of Asher, then it is likely that Asher had a wife before Mehitable Getchell since they did not marry until after Jacob would have been born.) David is known to have lived in Calais around the time that Jacob was born, and from the census data, it is known that he had a child of the right age. Therefore, it seems plausible that David was Jacob’s father. If he is not a son, then it is probable that he would be a nephew or other close relative.

J. K. Basford “and lady” were passengers on the Steamship Golden Gate which went ashore on a reef near San Diego, CA. on 18 Jan 1854. The ship sent out a distress signal and all of the passengers were rescued by the ship Goliah and conveyed to San Francisco. [1310]
