Fifth Generation (Continued)
Fifth Generation (Continued)
Family of Elizabeth BASFORD (35) & John BLAKE
80. Jonathan BLAKE (Elizabeth BASFORD4, Joseph3, James2, Jacob1). Born on 1 Aug 1780 in Weare, NH. [323], [322] Jonathan died in prob. Miltonboro, VT, on 5 Aug 1854. [322], [317] age 74 at death per gravestone. Buried in Miltonboro Cemetery, Milton, VT. [323], [299]

[324] indicates that Jonathan married a Sally Basford. I am assuming that this is the Sally (Basford) Blake mentioned in the will of Benjamin Basford of Georgia, VT. [314] A John Blake witnessed that will; could this be the father of Jonathan?

He bought land in Milton, VT from his brother-in-law David Basford on 11 Jan 1812 [564] and 2 Apr 1814. [566]

Gravestone inscription, Miltonboro Cemtery, Miltonboro, VT [299]

He married Sally BASFORD (77) , daughter of 34. Benjamin BASFORD (1756-1833) & Lydia (BASFORD) (~1755-1825), bef 1805. [582] birth of Lydia. Born abt 1785. [317] age 63 at death. Sally died in Milton, VT, on 23 Feb 1848. [322], [317] Buried in Miltonboro Cemetery, Milton, VT. [317]

She is named in the will of her father Benjamin Basford. [314]

[299], [582], [314], [324], [583]

They had the following children:
274i.
Lydia (Died as Child) (~1805-1806)
275ii.
Dolly L. (~1821-?)
276iii.
James Monroe (Died as Child) (~1824-1839)
277iv.
Emeline (Died as Child) (~1827-1827)

[322] gives another child George Washington, b. 1823

They might be the parents of J. D. Madison Blake, who died 28 Feb 1827, age 15 years 7 months, and is buried near to their graves in the Miltonboro Cemetery. [584]
81. Jesse BLAKE (Elizabeth BASFORD4, Joseph3, James2, Jacob1). Born on 12 Apr 1782 in Weare, NH. [323], [322] Jesse died in Franklin Co., NY, on 16 Dec 1850. [507]

He is probably the Jesse Blake, age 68, b. NH found in the 1850 federal census of Constable, NY, with wife Nancy, and his son Samuel’s family. [19]

[19], [323], [528], [507], [322]

He married Nancy SANBORN ? . Born abt 1786. [507] age 72 at death. Nancy died in Franklin Co., NY, on 12 Nov 1858. [507]

[323], [507], [322]

82. Eliza BLAKE (Elizabeth BASFORD4, Joseph3, James2, Jacob1). Born on 26 Oct 1784 in Weare, NH. [323], [322] Eliza died in Belmont, NY, on 21 Aug 1861. [490] aka: Betty, Betsey.

Died at the home of her son-in-law Fletcher Dunham. [490]

Her obituary gives age as 78 years 10 months 13 days, which would correspond to a birth date of abt 8 Oct 1782. [490] This is a little inconsistent with the birthdate of 26 Oct 1784 given elsewhere, [19] and would also conflict with the birth of Eliza’s brother Jesse.

One set of notes gives birth as 1790. [19]

[19], [488], [489], [490], [323], [324], [322]

She married John BASSFORD (68) , son of 32. Joseph BASFORD (1750-1834) & Leah HARRIS (1755-1835), by abt 1810. Born on 31 Mar 1782 in New Hampshire. [285] John died in Bellmont, NY, on 14 Jan 1866. [481] at home of son John, Jr. aka: Basford.

He is probably the John Basford of St. Armand, who sold 200 acres of land in Dunham to James Dodge on 9 Feb 1803. He had obtained this land on 27 Jun 1801. [482]

There is John Basfod in the 1825 census for Dunham, Missisquoi Co., Canada East with a family of 11 [462]
3 children under 6
3 children 6-13
2 children 14-17
1 married male 40-59
2 females under 14
3 single females 14-44
1 married female 14-44

There is another John Basford in the 1825 census for St. Armand, Redford Co., Canada East. [19]

There is a John Basford, farmer, in the 1831 census for Dunham, Missisquoi Co., Canada East. with a family of 12 [283]
4 males 6-13
1 single male 14-17
1 married male 30-59
1 married male 60+
2 females under 14
1 married female 14-44
3 single females 14-44
1 marred female 45+
(The numbers don’t add up to 12, so perhaps 2 were hired help?)

He is probably the John Basford who sold 20 acres of land in Dunham, Missisquoi Co., Lower Canada to George Doucaster on 23 Apr 1833. [483] He also sold 45 acres of land in Dunham, Missisquoi Co., Lower Canada to George Doucaster on 14 Jan 1840. [484] He had obtained this land from the “commissioner appointed for the sale and management of the waste lands of the Crown.“

He is probably also the John Basford who sold 52 acres of land in Dunham, Missisquoi Co., Lower Canada to William Gates on 5 Mar 1840. He had obtained this land on 3 Jul 1831 from the widow and heirs of Prescott Clark. [485] (Prescott Clark was the husband of his sister Mary, and William Gates was the husband of his sister Elizabeth.) Perhaps he sold this land just before he removed to New York?

1 male 20-30 (Aaron?)
1 male 50-60 (John Sr.)

He sold twelve acres of land in Westville, NY to his son, “John Basford, Jr.” for $200 on 22 Mar 1848. [486] He purchased the same land back from John Jr. for $200 on 29 Apr 1850. [487]
