[913], [744] Buried in North Fairfax/Beeman Cemetery, Fairfax, VT. [913], [293] Occupation: Restaurant Keeper. [295] aka: Barsford. [913]

He is a probable son of John and Eliza Basford, but this has not been proven.

The 1850 and 1860 census give his birthplace as Vermont. [579], [580] However, he was of Dunham, Lower Canada at the time of his marriage in 1838. [914]

If Sarah (Bassford) Berry is really his sister, then either John’s birthday of 1 Sep 1817, or Sarah’s birthdate of 24 Nov 1817 given by [920] must be wrong.

He bought twelve acres of land in Westville, NY from his father for $200 on 22 Mar 1848. [486] He sold the same land back to him for $200 on 29 Apr 1850. [487]

216. Sarah BASSFORD (John5, Joseph BASFORD4, Joseph3, James2, Jacob1). Born on 24 Nov 1817 in Canada. [920] Sarah died in Big Creel, WI, on 7 May 1888. [930], [931]

She is a probable daughter of John and Eliza Basford, but this hasn’t been proven. [920] Gustavus and Sarah were living next to John and Eliza Bassford at the time of the 1860 census which would seem to support this conjecture. [488] If she is their daughter, then either her birthdate of 24 Nov 1817 given by [920], or her brother John’s birthday of 1 Sep 1817 must be wrong.

After Gustavus dued, Sarah’s 6 living children signed a quit clain deed on 11 Jul 1875 giving rights to a piece property for the sum of $1. The deed was recorded on 26 Jan, 1876. [920]

[488], [320], [932], [920], [928], [933], [841], [934], [931]

She married Gustavus BERRY, son of Barnabus BERRY (?-1850), ? . Born on 8 Mar 1803 in Canada or Vermont. [320], [920] age 47 in 1850 census. Gustavus died in Monroe Co., WI, on 11 Feb 1874. [920] or 7 May 1875. aka: Barnabus Gustavus. [935]

Sarah, female, age 16, b. NY, keeping house
(Sarah LaRock would be the daughter of Gustavus and Sarah)

Family Bible of Sarah (Basford) Berry gives date of death as 7 May 1875. However, this conficts with date found elsewhere. It is likely that there may have been some confusion with the death date for his wife Sarah (7 May 1888). [920]

571v.

In one set of notes, [19] shows a son John M. who died 10 Jul 187_, age 1 year, 6 days. However, Aaron and Harriet would seem to be a little old to be having a child in the 1870s?
218. Anna BASSFORD (John5, Joseph BASFORD4, Joseph3, James2, Jacob1). Born abt 1822-1823 in Canada East. [488], [940], [507] age 38 in 1860 census, age 81 in 1905 census, age 83 at death. Anna died in Westville, NY, on 5 May 1906. [940], [940] Buried in Pine Grove Cemetery, Westville, NY. [940]

Death record gives father as John Basford, and mother as Charlotte Basford. [940] I assume that the mother’s name was probably incorrect, and that she was really the daughter of John and Eliza (Blake) Basford. This is reinforced since she and her husband are living next to Aaron Basford in the 1860 census. [488]

She is living with her step-son George W. Griffin, Jr. in the 1905 census of Westville, NY. [507]

[941] gives birth as 1825.
