Notes from Marge Spille gave death as 4 Jan 1939. [19] However a copy of his obituary indicated that he died at age 93. [1558] The date of publication is not included on the obituary, but a handwritten note gives a date of 1952. Perhaps the age and the noted date were in error, or perhaps this was a different Madison Bassford? The obituary indicated that his wife had died eight years earlier, and that he was survived by four daughters and one son: “Mrs. R. R. Rhoades, Richland(?); F. J. Bassford, Constable; Mrs. W. E. Tatro, Faust; Mrs. E. M. Bissonette, Valleyfield, Que; and Mrs. Maurice Dow, Utica.” [1558]
