George and Margaret were of Wheeling, WV at the time of their marriage. The marriage record gives the names of George’s parents as Z. and Delia Basford and the names of Margaret’s parents as Jerry and Margaret Hickey.24

8. Edward Carr BASSFORD (Zebede1). Born on 23 Sep 1854 in Virginia.16,18 Edward Carr died in Caspar, WY, on 14 May 1946.16,29,18 age 91 years 7 months 21 days. Buried in Highland Cemetery, Casper, Natrona Co., WY.18 GR12 B28. Occupation: Blacksmith.16

In the 1870 census for Arden Twp., Berkeley Co., WV, he was living with the family of Henry J. Seibert. His age was given as 16, and his occupation as farm laborer.28

He moved with his family to Iowa when he was 21, where he settled on a farm near Sioux City. Edward was married there, and he and his wife came to Wyoming in 1894.29

He is listed in the 1911 and 1912 city directories for Polk, WY. The 1915 directory notes that Edward had recently moved to Buffalo, WY.36

In the 1920 census, he was living with his son-in-law Ira Plummer in Casper, Natrona Co., WY. His age was given as 66 years, and his birthplace was given as Virginia. The birthplaces of his parents were given as England.37

He is listed in the 1922 city directory for Casper, WY.38

There is an E. C. Bassford, d. 8 Feb 1900, buried in the same plot as Mary.18 Perhaps this would be a child who died young?

One of his daughter married a Mr. C. W. Thomsen, and was living in Vallejo, CA at the time of Edward’s death in 1946.29 This might have been Myrtle. If not, then it would have to be a second marriage for Lulu since she is the onl other daughter not accounted for in Edward’s obituary.
