Seventh Generation (Continued)
Family of James Henry BASSFORD Jr. (350) & Mary Rose AISQUITH
623. Edith Viola BASSFORD (James Henry6, James Henry BASFORD5, Henry4, Benjamin3, Thomas2, Thomas1). Born in Nov 1897 in Anne Arundel Co., MD. [169] Edith Viola died ? .

[169], [190], [159]

[159]

They had the following children:

Harold Benjamin (1917-2006)
624. James Preston BASSFORD (James Henry6, James Henry BASFORD5, Henry4, Benjamin3, Thomas2, Thomas1). Born on 21 May 1899 in Anne Arundel Co., MD. [349], [121] James Preston died in Anne Arundel Co., MD, on 10 Jul 1961. [121] Buried in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens And Chapel Mausoleum, Annapolis, Anne Arundel Co., MD. [94] Occupation: Cab Driver. [121] aka: Preston J. [159]

He is listed with his grandmother in the 1920 federal census for District 1, ED 3, Anne Arundel Co., MD, p. 5B [184]
Mary F. Asquith, female, head, age 69, b. MD, father b. MD, mother b. MD, widow

Preston Bassford, male, grandson, age 20, b. MD, father b. MD, mother b. MD, married

Preston, Jr., male, [great-]grandson, age 5/12, b. MD, father b. MD, mother b. MD, single
(Presumably Mary Asquith would be his mother’s mother.)

[121] indicates that James and Julia were divorced, and that James married a second wife Lucy Mae (Jones) Westfall. The date of his second marriage is not given, but apparently James and Lucy had several children by about 1931. This would suggest that they may have been married as early as the mid 1920s. I have been unable to locate James in the 1930 census, but did find James’ first wife Julia, who is listed three children, two being under 4 years old. The census record still shows Julia’s status as married. Given the apparent timing of James second marriage, it’s possible that the 2 youngest children of Julia might not be James?
