He is probably James Bassford, an elderly farm worker, who was badly beaton on the head and body during a robbery on his farm near Severna Park, MD on 14 Dec 1952. He was found lying unconscious in a field with a fractured skull, broken nose and severe lacerations. It appeared that he may have gotten up to investigate a disturbance at the chicken coops when his attacker jumped him. [474] He apparently died of his injuries because on 30 Dec 1952 three men were charged with his murder. [475], [476] At least two of the men were eventually convicted. [477] This would be consistent with the date of death of 29 Dec 1952 given by Alta Siegert. [12]
