Sixth Generation (Continued)
Family of John H. BASFORD (91) & Sarah A. HANCE
193. Richard BASFORD (John H.5, Jacob4, John3, Thomas2, Thomas1). Born abt 1847-1848 in Calvert Co., MD. [72], [87] age 13 in 1860 census, age 22 in 1870 census. Richard died ? .

[72], [87]

194. Amanda BASFORD (John H.5, Jacob4, John3, Thomas2, Thomas1). Born abt 16 Aug 1850 in Calvert Co., MD. [12] age 38 years 6 months 27 days at death. Amanda died on 12 Mar 1889. [12] aka: Amelia. [87], [118]

She would presumably be the deceased daughter Amelia Carpenter named in her mother’s will dated 22 Jun 1891. Her children Laura A. Carpenter, Annie A. Carpenter, Thomas W. Carpenter, Mary E. Carpenter and Evans B. Carpenter received bequests. [136]

[12] indicates that Amanda’s sister Elizabeth married Thomas L. Carpenter. However, her mother’s will names a daughter Lizzie M. Wilson, and a deceased daughter Amelia Carpenter. [136] The 1880 census shows Amanda/Amelia as the husband of Thomas Carpenter. [118] Probably Elizabeth/Lizzie M. was married to a Wilson at the time of her mother’s will in 1891, and then her she married her brother-in-law Thomas after Amanda/Amelia’s death since Thomas has a wife Lizzie M. in the 1900 census, who he had married 8 years previous. Amanda’s children are listed with the family, as well as one child from Thomas and Elizabeth’s marriage. [169]

[72], [87], [118], [136]

She married Thomas J. CARPENTER ? . Born in Jun 1848 in Maryland. [169] Thomas J. died ? .

[12] indicates that she married Thomas L. Carpenter. However her mother will names a daughter Lizzie M. Wilson, and a deceased daughter Amelia Carpenter. [136] Probably Thomas L. Carpenter was the husband of Elizabeth’s sister Amelia/Amanda, and Elizabeth was married to a Wilson. Elizabeth apparently married her brother-in-law about 1892 according to the 1900 census. [169]
