He was later released as part of a prisoner exchange, reaching Richmond on 3 Mar 1865. He was furloughed on 12 Mar 1865, reaching home on 1 Apr 1865. He was disabled with severe Rheumatism contracted during the war, which left him with pain in his left leg, which was left two inches shorter than the other.13,30
