Liz Foote indicates that she found the vital records copy of Leroy Greene's name change. This is what someone had written in:

Of North Cambridge, Fletcher, Stowe, Elmore and Morrisville, all in Vermont.

According to an article in The Cambridge News 30 Mar 1893: "Sanford Reynolds son of J. C. Reynolds is threatened with fever and under a doctor's care." (He was 12 years old at the time.) This must have been the time that he lost all of his hair, and it never grew back, forcing him to wear an ill-fitting toupé for the rest of his life. He was always conscious of it, even to the point of trying to straighten it up when he was on his death bed. (Quote from his daughter Greta (Reynolds) Spaulding at the time of his death 14 Jan 1957.)

Sanford and his father Joshua ran a saw and grist mill in East Fletcher that was situated along the railroad tracks on Kinsley Rd and N. Cambridge Rd. Murray and Ida (Reynolds) Montague and Elmer and Eda (Reynolds) Wetherall owned farms on the right side of the road, and Carson Reynolds owned one on the left. Luther Greene (Gladys' father) also lived on Kinsley Rd.

News & Citizen 4 Jul 1900, No. Cambridge, Sanford Reynolds visits his mother Mrs. Fanny Reynolds. [572]

The News & Citizen newspaper of 19 Feb 1902 indicates that Sanford Reynolds and Elmer Witherell had rented the saw and grist mill of Mrs. Fannie Reynolds for 5 years. On 26 Feb 1902, there is a notice that the new mill of Reynolds and Wetherall had commenced operations, and on 18 Feb 1903 there is a notice that “Reynolds and Witherell have near 4000 logs at their mill and expect to finish drawing in a few days.” On 25 May 1904, Reynolds and Wetherall were busy shipping hardwood logs to market. [572] Elmer would have been the husband of his sister Eda.

News & Citizen 26 Sep 1906, N. Cambridge, S. E. Reynolds has his new grist and saw mill completed and is ready for customers. [572]

He lost the mill during the Great Depression. Reginald Spaulding reports that his grandmother Gladys told him that they received a settlement of only about 10 cents per railroad carload of lumber from a company he had shipped lumber to.

They then moved to the Brownsville area of Stowe, VT. Later he bought a farm in Elmore, VT, overlooking the South-West corner of Elmore Lake. They stopped farming and moved off the farm in the mid 1940's. At that point, they moved to the village of Morrisville, and he worked in the Novelty Shop, which was a woodworking shop where they made wooden turnings, etc.
