Francis (?) BASSFORD (Hiel6, Henry Harris5, Joseph BASFORD4, Joseph3, James2, Jacob1).
Born abt 1858 in New York. [599] age 12 in 1870 census. Francis (?) died ? .
It is not proven that he is a son of Hiel and Nancy Bassford. He is living with the family of Hiel’s sister Eliabeth (Bassford) Hooker in the 1870 census, together with Grace Bassford, who is believed to be a daughter of Hiel. [599]

Grace D. BASSFORD (Hiel6, Henry Harris5, Joseph BASFORD4, Joseph3, James2, Jacob1).
Born abt 1861-1862 in New York, NY. [599], [683] age 9 in 1870 census, age 18 in 1880 census. Grace D. died ? .
Her marriage record gives her parents names as Hiel and Mary N. (Taylor) Bassford. It also gives her age as 24, and indicates that she was living at 95 Hart St., Brooklyn, NY. [973] Her age would correspond to a birthdate of abt 1872. However, her father Hiel had already married his second wife Harriet Brinkerhoff in 1866, so either her age or her mother’s name must be in error. Perhaps she did not want to admit how much older she was than her husband?
She is probably the child Grace Bassford, age 9, living with the family of her father’s sister, Elizabeth (Bassford) Hooker in the 1870 census. [599] If so, this would place her date of birth at abt 1861 rather than 1872. (Perhaps her age at her marriage should have been 34 rather than 24?)
