[1179], [744], [295] age 32 years 7 months 9 days. Buried in Greenwood Cemetery, St. Albans, VT. [1179], [293] Death Cause: Childbirth Complications. aka: Delia.

She is a probable daughter of Benjamin Basford, Jr. of Georgia, VT, but this has not been proven. It is also possible that she might also be the daughter of his brother David. However, she is not mentioned in David’s will dated 18 Sep 1835. [569] Although the will does not list all of David’s children, it does list Sebastian and Mary who were minors at the time. Since Adelia would have been about 14 years old, and she did not marry until 1839, the fact that she was not mentioned would seem to indicate that she was probably not David’s daughter.

At the Probate Court for Franklin county there is a card in the file on the estate of Stephen P. Basford, administrator Isaac Hoyt, stating that the proceeds of a life insurance policy taken out on the life of Charles B. Greene (on 1 Oct 1869) were to be transferred to Lois E. Basford and her daughter Ethel C. Basford. [19] (The wife and daughter of Stephen Basford.) This would seem to imply that Charles, the son of Adelia (Basford) Greene, must be a close relative of Stephen and Lois/Louise Basford, which would suggest that Adelia and Stephen were probably siblings. This would support Adelia being a daughter of Benjamin Jr.

283. Louis Alonzo BASFORD (Benjamin5, Benjamin4, Joseph3, James2, Jacob1). Born abt 1822-1825 in St. Albans, VT. [388], [634], [1193], [1194] age 28 in 1850 census, age 36 in 1860 census, age 43 in 1868, age 63 at death. Louis Alonzo died in Passaic, NJ, on 14 Jan 1885. [1194] aka: Lewis, Alonzo.

He is a probably a son of Benjamin Basford Jr. of St. Albans, VT, but this has not been proven. One piece of circumstantial evidence that supports this hypothesis is that an Alonzo Basford was living in Boston at the time of the 1850 census, and Stephen Basford, who is known to be a son of Benjamin Jr, was also living there. [388] Presumably, Alonzo is the same Louis Alonzo Basford who married June Caroline Nichols of Boston, MA on 24 Aug 1845 in St. Albans, VT. [296] Perhaps Louis and Stephen moved to Boston together. If they were not brothers, then they were probably cousins.

Harriet, female, age 13, b. CT

In the 1865 Boston city directory, he is listed as living at 20 Grenville place. [709]

Apparently Louis and Jane were divorced at some point, and were then remarried on 7 Aug 1868 at Boston, MA. [413]

He is probably the Alonzo Basford, age 45 (b. Canada, father b. Canada, mother b. Canada, married, peddler) listed in the 1880 census for St. Albans, VT, p. 279B, living with the family of Ralph and Claracy Brooks. [1119] Although age is a little inconsistent with the 1850 census, there are no other Alonzo Basfords that show up in the census. He is listed as being married, although his wife is living with their daughter Harriet in New Jersey.

In the probate records for the estate of Stephen P. Basford of St. Albans, VT, there is an account from administrator Isaac E.
