Sixth Generation (Continued)
Family of Jacob BASFORD (66) & (?) (BASFORD)
208. Roxanna BASFORD (Jacob5, Joseph4, Joseph3, James2, Jacob1). Born ? . Roxanna died on 13 Apr 1840. [467] aka: Roxey.

It is said that three Basford sisters, the daughters of Jacob and Hannah Basford, married three George brothers. [467] However, I have not seen any solid evidence for the relationship between the Basford girls who married the George boys. There is a Roxey Basford, b. abt 1808, who was mentioned in the land petition for Jacob Basford filed in the Township of Stanstead in 1821(?) [470]. She could possibly be the Roxanna Basford who married John Finch George, but if so, she would have only been about 14 years old. There are no daughters in that family that would fit with Sophronia or Abigail. Additionally, Jacob and Hannah Flanders could not have been married until after 1827 when Hannah’s first husband died. So if the “sisters” were daughters of this Jacob, they must have been from an earlier wife.

She married John Finch GEORGE, son of Moses Hayes GEORGE (1771-1835) & Abigail CHANNEL (?-?), on 19 Mar 1821 in Charleston (Hatley), Canada East. [19], [895] Charleston Baptist Church. Born in Oct 1804. [467] John Finch died on 9 Apr 1871. [467]

He has 7 children with Roxanna, and then 7 more with a second wife. The first child of John and Roxanna is listed as having been born in 1828 which makes me wonder whether the marriage date was read correctly. [897]
